　　Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.

　　傳統(tǒng)和現(xiàn)代化是不相容的。人們必須在二者之間做出選擇。

　　觀點(diǎn)：不同意，傳統(tǒng)和現(xiàn)代是相容的。

　　1. 從歷史的角度看，很多思想、傳統(tǒng)(信仰、價(jià)值觀、習(xí)俗等)一代代傳承至今，對(duì)于現(xiàn)代的社會(huì)影響仍然存在。

　　思想上：古代的哲學(xué)智慧(Socrates, what is love? What is truth? What is justice? Socrates, a philosopher in Athens, ancient Greece, asked big questions like these and tried to make people think, discuss and debate. )，軍事思想(Alexander the Great???)，政治理想(Plato –the republic 影響了美國(guó)的國(guó)家機(jī)構(gòu)設(shè)置)等等。

　　傳統(tǒng)上：China, spring festival, set off firework; Bull game in Brazil

　　宗教上：Christianism, Islam, Buddhism which are all born long ago still greatly influence people in modern world.

　　2. 現(xiàn)代的好多東西經(jīng)過演變，成為與傳統(tǒng)兼容的產(chǎn)物，同時(shí)傳統(tǒng)也流傳與之成為并行的流派。特別是在建筑、藝術(shù)和音樂方面eg. Rococo 洛可可; 藝術(shù)Picasso 的impressionism, cubism; 仍然是現(xiàn)代建筑和藝術(shù)的流派之一，被廣為借鑒。Classical music, 和pop music 盡管風(fēng)格迥異，但都帶給現(xiàn)代人音樂的享受。

　　3. 當(dāng)然，我們必須承認(rèn)傳統(tǒng)中的一些東西與現(xiàn)代的確是格格不入的。比如舊的習(xí)俗，對(duì)于女性的歧視(discriminate against women)，superstition(迷信)等等。

　　4、我們不能因此而全盤否認(rèn)傳統(tǒng)的作用，對(duì)于傳統(tǒng)正確的態(tài)度應(yīng)該是去除糟粕取其精華。

　　通過這種提綱式的弄清gre寫作思路，即使考試的時(shí)候?qū)懥颂峋V，也還有充足的時(shí)間給考生答題。
