GMAT閱讀出題題材廣泛。文章所涉及的題材十分廣泛，一般來說，文章分為以下三類：

　　a)科技類文章（Science Passages）例如DNA、基因、厄爾尼諾、溫室效應(yīng)、大氣污染、開采能源等。以下就是幾篇典型的GMAT科技類文章的片斷： “Caffeine, the stimulant in coffee, has been called "the most widely used psychoactive substance on Earth …….For many years, caffeine"s effects have been attributed to its inhibition of the production of phosphodiesterase”， “Nearly a century ago, biologists found that if they separated an invertebrate animal embryo into two parts at an early stage of its life…….”， “ Protein synthesis begins when the gene encoding a protein is activated…………” 此類文章內(nèi)容枯燥無味，加上通篇“游蕩”著的幾個(gè)超長的自然科學(xué)類的英文單詞，往往令中國學(xué)生十分頭疼。由于此類文章難度較大，所以題目一般比較簡單，基本都是“直接事實(shí)題”（這將在以后的“GMAT閱讀題型分析”中講到），極少出現(xiàn)“信息題”或其它高難題型。

        b) 社會科學(xué)類文章（Social science passages）此類文章可能涉及歷史http://llwuxin.cn，政治或宏觀經(jīng)濟(jì)等社會科學(xué)領(lǐng)域的話題，包括美國歷史、弱勢群體（少數(shù)民族、黑人、女性）以及法律（法律史）等等，在GMAT考試中所占比例較大。如：“Recent years have brought minority-owned businesses in the United States unprecedented opportunities……….”， “In the two decades between 1910 and 1930, over ten percent to the Black population of the United States left the South……”，“Historians of women"s labor in the United States at first largely disregarded the story of female service workers-women earning wages in occupations………”。相對于上述自然科學(xué)類文章，這類文章對中國學(xué)生的理解能力并未造成太大挑戰(zhàn)，但其閱讀題目的難度卻不容小覷。

　　c)商業(yè)類 （Business passages） 此類的GMAT 文章數(shù)量眾多，而且涉及范圍http://llwuxin.cn也十分廣泛，比如市場營銷，存貨處理，以及日常管理等等。例如：“Excess inventory, a massive problem for many businesses, has several causes, some of which are unavoidable……”，“Traditionally, the first firm to commercialize a new technology has benefited from the unique opportunity to shape product definitions, forcing followers to adapt to a standard or invest in an unproven alternative….”由于此類文章行文較簡單，所以題目一般會比較難，會有高難的“信息題”出現(xiàn)，考生在對原文進(jìn)行一般理解的基礎(chǔ)上，應(yīng)盡力 “聽”出其“弦外之音”。
